Build wind-powered devices while managing their environmental impact. Teams compete to create functional machines with the lowest CO2 footprint.
Build wind-powered devices while managing their environmental impact. Teams compete to create functional machines with the lowest CO2 footprint.
Combine engineering ingenuity with environmental consciousness in this innovative team challenge. Wind Farm tasks teams with designing and building wind-powered lifting devices while carefully considering their environmental impact. Each decision matters as teams balance functionality against sustainability.
Teams receive construction materials, each carrying its own CO2 footprint value. The challenge lies in creating a device capable of lifting a weight one meter off the ground while minimizing environmental impact. This dual objective forces teams to think critically about their design choices and material usage.
Once teams have their devices up and running, the activity shifts into an optimization phase. Teams can refine their designs to reduce their carbon footprint further, encouraging iterative thinking and continuous improvement. This is followed by an engaging app-based sustainability challenge, where teams can offset their device's CO2 footprint through knowledge-based questions and creative tasks.
The experience concludes with performance testing of all devices and final CO2 calculations. Success requires a delicate balance - teams must create a functional device while maintaining the lowest possible environmental impact. The winning team demonstrates both technical capability and environmental responsibility.
This activity brings together multiple skill sets:
- Engineering and design thinking
- Resource management
- Environmental awareness
- Team coordination
- Problem-solving under constraints
- Strategic decision-making
